You may have experienced after spraying your perfume, you smell the fragrance loud and clear. Each note is visible and you feel complete. The aroma automatically comes to your nose and you are busy with your life.
But after a while, maybe an hour or even less for weaker perfumes, you don’t smell it anymore. It only comes when you smell your hand or the place of application/. You may think the perfume effect has worn off? So is it actually gone, is it the perfume which was faulty?
The reason is simple, our body gets accustomed to the smell. Our nose gets used to the smell that it goes ‘nose-blind’. Means you can’t smell it unless the concentration of the perfume is higher than what your nose has got accustomed to.
Let’s understand this with an example. A person working in a dump yard don’t smell the stench of rotten organic waste, and the gas released by them. Unlike us, who when even cross it from afar smell its stench and immediately smell a flower or a perfume. The man working in the dump yard is accustomed to its smell and no longer feels the stench unless he comes across a more stinky batch of garbage, then he may also close his nose.
Another example is the smell of paints and thinners, any random passing by can smell the odour of paint but the painter doesn’t feel any strong scent of thinner around him all the time.
Similarly, we cant smell ‘our’ perfume floating around our nose. If we have doubts that is the perfume’s fragrance still around my body and not just concentrated on my hands, you can politely ask a friend to smell it for you.
Also a point to note, you can smell other people’s fragrances because the nose has yet not gotten accustomed to them. You may compliment them for their perfume, which may clarify them as well that their perfume is still under effect, because their nose also has the same problem.
Now you may ask, is it fine to over use a perfume for it to be identifiable for your nose all day long?
Answer is, no matter how much you use it, after a short while it will die out for you. Though others around you may smell the brilliancy of your perfume.
But remember over use of perfume is also bad. Many people can’t handle strong perfumes. It may make them uncomfortable as well. And not just them, but the strong concentration of perfume particles may irritate your nose as well. So apply according to what you need. And don’t worry, perfume is always under effect and you still smell wonderful.
Does the perfume expires if it changes colour?
Most of the perfume do not change colour. But natural oils based perfumes may change colour, this is because natural raw material change their appearances with time, hence changing the colour of perfume as well. But don’t worry, they are as effective as before.
If not, check their expire date. Many may change colour because they may have gone past their expiration date i.e. some components may have died/decomposed. You may contact the company of your perfume for more details.
